Subject: Robin Bibi Band - 2nd November 2006
From: info@boogaloopromotions.com
Dear Frank
Don't miss Robin Bibi and his band this Thursday 2nd November at Farnham Maltings.
Robin formed the Bibi Band in 1996 having 'paid his dues' working as guitarist for other artists and bands.
Robin is a seasoned professional and one of the finest blues guitarists around as well as a talented songwriter and a great showman with an excellent voice. His influences include Albert King, Peter Green, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, and more... Like any great performer he has soaked up these styles and blended them into something all of his own! Don't miss this excellent band!
Robin will also be at the Blues Festival at the Maltings on Sunday 12th November with electric blues violinist Dave Sugarbeet and his Last Gasp Blues Band.
Tickets for Robin Bibi Band cost £8 (concessions £7). Doors open at 8.15 pm for a 9.00 pm start. DJ Chris will be playing cool sounds to complement the gig...

From: "ian parker mailing list" ortum@ianparkermusic.com
There's not really a lot of news at the moment, Ian is very busy working on his new CD (our spies tell us that it is going very well) which will be released in the new year.
Thanks to Otto and Henni for letting us know that prestigious Dutch national radio station The Arrow recently held a poll for listeners to vote for their top Blues track of all time.
Ian's It Hurts A Man came 46th - which, when you see the impressive company he's in, is a fantastic achievement!
To see the complete Blues Top 50 list visit
http://www.arrow.nl/rock/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=50&Itemid=103
Thank you to all Ian's friends in The Netherlands and everywhere for your support!
We also have a new guestbook on the website, which will hopefully stay clear of spam for a while, so please feel free to leave a message or two.
And finally, here are the latest tour dates. There is one extra date since we sent the last newsletter, at Millers - Kirkby in Ashfield on Thursday 30th November. Full details and any other updated information will be posted on the website as and when they become available.

Time's flying by - seems like only yesterday I sent Octobers guide. I'm very privileged to have folk legend Michael Chapman for four gigs in November, I'm looking forward to those. Harry and I play probably our last afternoon blues session at The Central on the 5th as the change of management is imminent. Tribute fans have REM and Pink Floyd to experience in the shapes of Stipe and US + Them respectively. I've been asked to handle the bigger bookings at the Quicksilver Mail in Yeovil next year so I'm starting to fill those dates - blimey, never a dull moment! As always - phone early to book! See you there.

Entertainment doesn't get any glammer than this so pohone now for tickets, put your dancing shoes on and come and join the Abba party!

Last month saw a plethora of steel guitars, dobros, nationals etc, along with Trumpet and Flavios amazing harmonica. It was a blues version of those scenes I've been to in Nashville where 8 or 9 country players get round and jam - duelling dobros! This month we're hoping to get Canadian boogie / jazz piano player Bruce Griffin along along with Flavio and whoever else is touring. This could be the last one as management changes are in the pipeline so come and enjoy.

One of the Barns success stories, Stipe have increased their attendance numbers at every appearance here. One of the biggest bands to emerge from the 70's, REM with their charismatic singer Michael Stipe ( complete with blue stripe across his face at Live8 ) proceeded to tear the singles and album charts up with those famous hit melodies and have established themselves as world class musicians. Well, this is Stipe and REM is what they do - very well! They are the UKs foremost REM tribute playing 2 hours of all the classics, you'll find yourself singing along to songs you didn't realise you knew - 'Man on the Moon' 'Losing my Religion' 'Everybody Hurts' and many, many more. A superb stage show not to be missed by any serious REM fan.

The 'Fully Qualified Survivor' makes a rare live appearance in the South! For such an enormous talent Hull born Michael Chapman remains one of Britains most underrated artists. A superb and very individually styled guitarist Mike embraced the skiffle boom of the 50's before encountering fellow folk players like Wizz Jones and Davey Graham who encouraged him to turn professional. His own confession to 'Out-miserying Leonard Cohen' is swiftly nullified by humourous anecdotes about Boats, Planes, Trains and various friends dinner table eccentricities. Michaels name sits comfortably alongside others of the same genre such as Bert Jansch and Davey Graham but Michael has that extra something that gives his albums that extra buzz. Three of his mid-seventies albums have been released on a double CD 'Dogs got more Sense', musicians featured include Aynsley Dunbar, Pete Wingfield, Keef Hartley, Rick Kemp (Steeleye Span) and the late, great Mick Ronson (Bowies Spiders from Mars) If you've got a gap in your list of 'seeing British Legends' make sure you book for tonights concert! Think of J.J Cale gargling gravel, mix in some Alabama backwater,a few pints of Hull, some slow burning, soulful lyrics and virtuoso guitar work and you have the swampy brew that is the essence of Michael Chapman.
FRI 24th NOV - US AND THEM (Pink Floyd tribute) The Barn @ Square+Compass, Windmill Hill, Nr Ilminster, Somerset. 01823 480467 Adv tickets £10.00 Door £12.00 Door 8pm. Food from 7pm,pre book please. Start 9 - 9.15pm More info, pics etc www.us-and-them.co.uk
Interest in this gig is already high just by word-of-mouth and from the 100+ people who saw them at their stunningly successful first show here in February and wanted them back. Us and Them also played very successful gigs at The Octagon Theatre and the Cheese+Grain (which was filmed for DVD release) and once again bring that unique presentation back to The Barn. The fabulous light show, the magical musicianship,it will all be at The Barn tonight - 'Money','Another Brick in the Wall''Comfortably Numb' 'Us and Them' plus rare excerpts from 'Meddle and 'The Wall' and all those great Pink Floyd masterpieces that made them one of the greatest bands in the world will be featured. 'Wish you were here'? Well, book a ticket to be sure you are!
