Larry McCray, the second youngest of nine children, was raised on a small farm in Magnolia, Arkansas. His father played the blues on harmonica and guitar, and his older sister Clara was a guitarist and disciple of Freddie King. The family had records by John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters, among others. McCray cites the musical influence of the three blues Kings - B.B., Albert and Freddie - on his guitar playing, as well as Albert Collins, Elmore James and Magic Sam. Larry McCray is one of a handful of talented young blues performers leading the genre across boundaries and into the new century. McCray's savage blues-rock guitar and warm, soulful vocals have drawn attention worldwide.
Live On 75, on December 6, 2005. A new studio album and tour is to follow in late 2006. The blues is Larry McCray's business, and business is good!

Subject: The Mustangs at Farnham Maltings - Thursday 16 November 2006
Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2006 13:43:45 -0000
Dear Frank
Don't miss the all-rocking Mustangs this Thursday 16th November in the Cellar Bar at Farnham Maltings.
The Mustangs play a high energy, foot stomping live set, with the focal point on the tireless energy and huge voice of lead singer Adam Norsworthy.
The four-piece Hampshire based band formed in 2001. Guitarist and singer Adam Norsworthy joined forces with harp player Derek Kingaby. The Mustangs line-up is completed by the dynamic drumming of Jon Bartley and the rock solid bass of Ben Mckeown.
Official recognition of the band’s growing stature has come in many shapes and forms. They were voted Band of the Year in the respected music magazine Gigbase. They were chosen from more than 500 bands to play at Guilfest and in Spring 2005 won the famous Eel Pie Blues Club's Bluesquest competition for new talent.
Come and see for yourself this Thursday!
We still have a few festival t-shirts left, so if you'd like one as a souvenir at just £10 each, come along and pick one up on Thursday or send us a cheque and we'll post to you (p&p 50p per shirt). Colours are black, deep navy and just 3
purple!
Tickets for The Mustangs cost £8 (concessions £7). Doors open at 8.15 pm for a 9.00 pm start. DJ Chris will be playing cool sounds to complement the gig...

For an hour every Friday evening, a dizzying array of music ranging from Ennio Morricone to Ween, from Peggy Lee to JJ Cale pours from the speakers. Subject: [rockinarmadillos] Come and join the nobs (and The Rockin' Armadillos) at a stately home!!!
Hi Everybody!
Just a brief note about a great weekend event that the Armadillos are involved in at the end of the month... the Thoresby Hall Warner Blues Weekend.
Having now played at almost all the Warner sites around the UK, I can honestly say that Thoresby Hall is the smartest, swishest - in fact, the poshest of 'em all.
As well as being set in an absolutely amazing Grade I listed country mansion house in beautiful grounds, Thoresby has a lot of other stuff going for it... like its own health spa and a restaurant that makes the restaurants at the other Warner sites (all perfectly good in their own right) seem ordinary in comparison. The Thai noodle bar, for instance, is out of this world - I nearly ate myself to a standstill last year!!!! (Shame I'm on a diet these days, really!)
What else? Oh yes that other thing - THE MUSIC!
Monica has booked a really great lineup of bands for this special weekend, headlined by sensational Chicago blues diva Deitra Farr and her band - we saw her at Norton Grange a couple of years back and she was excellent!
Also on the bill (apart from The Rockin' Armadillos, of course!) are:
* Our old mates, Jerimiah Marques & The Blue Aces (with the amazing West Weston on harp!!!)
* Les Wilson's Mighty Houserockers - great rockin' blues, fronted by Les, the Basil Fawlty of the blues!
* Honey Boy Hickling & The DTs - excellent tough rockin' r'n'b from the Midlands, featuring Stevie Marriot's old band;
* The Slim-Line Papas - energetic rock'n'roll/blues band (with ex-Hoax drummer Mark Barrett in the traps, fact-fans!)
On top of all that, there will be a great Saturday afternoon acoustic blues session, featuring half a dozen acts, including Los Tres and a special set by our own Alex Hall and Jane English and me, Rob and Paul will be running three all-night jams in the bar.
Oh yes, and we're about 90per cent sure Owen will be able to get a pass from his Purple Melon duties down in Brum to join the Armadillos for our mainstage set on the Saturday night!
All this is happening at Thoresby Hall, near Ollerton, Notts, from November 24-27.
HOW MUCH?
Well, this much quality - in terms both of the music and the setting - doesn't come cheap, but for just £239 a head (including comfy bedrooms, two HUGE and delicious meals a day, plus access to the venue's swimming pool, gym and leisure centre), we reckon that's still a pretty damned good deal!
At the time of writing, there are still places available, so what are you waiting for? This is going to be a ton of fun and we'd love to have you all along with us for the ride!
For booking details go to www.boolagoopromotions,com and click on the "blues" page.
See you there!
Tim
PS: Our good mate Smiley Dave (Badger and Fat Duncan's bass-playing mate) is currently looking for someone to share a twin-bedded room... Nothing pervy - just a desire not to get landed with Warner's single occupancy supplement. If you're similarly fixed, or know someone who might be interested in sharing a billet with one of the nicest (and most astonishingly cheerful) blokes on the planet, reply to this e-mail and we'll pass on your contact details to Dave.

Well that's another fine gig under our belts.........Fri 10th @ Maidstone opened with Migden & Gibson & frankly it don't get much better than that....superb performances from both Dave & Joe....what a duo!......fine guitaring from Joe & amazing vocals from Dave. I know those that bought their CD will have played it more than once this last weekend. Big Joe Louis was pretty shaken up by his accident but that didn't prevent him & the boys putting on a wonderful show. They made it to Belgium on Saturday morning, West Weston had to drive back to Essex to collect a bigger car & then re-join the band at the M20 services before catching the train through the tunnel. It's not always evident just what goes into putting on a gig.....a hell of a lot of work & effort for sure.
OK so what's next? On Tues 28th Nov.................
The Bottleneck Blues Club
@ The Roffen, Rochester
presents
West Weston & His Big Rhythm Band
You may have caught this act last year at our Christmas bash....this is a truly superb band....West Weston fronts some of the finest musicians on the London scene & the line-up includes his fabulous brass section. How I'm going to fit them onto the stage is another matter but I'll think of something.....Louis Jordan, Fats Waller, Little Walter, Big Joe Turner, Muddy Waters & many more heroes from the 40s & 50s will be featured in a really up-beat show.
I am close to sold out as far as tables are concerned.
I've got the famous Roffen Christmas Tree to contend with at this gig. I always try to get them to put it up the Wed. after our gig but unfortunately they can rarely do that due to their own functions & so I loose at least three tables every November in Rochester. I'll have as many seats as I can muster set out but this gig always presents me with space problems. It won't stop us all having a great time though!
Don't forget the Crawley Blues Club's Blues Festival this coming Sat. 18th Nov. @ The Hawth, Crawley. It kicks off at 1:00pm & features a whole bunch of USA & UK artists many of whom you'll be familiar with, some you may not but they're all excellent performers.........more info on www.crawleyblues.co.uk
And lastly....a big Thank You to the many who kindly rose to the challenge & emailed Maidstone Borough Council about the proposed development behind MU MU (Zaffa). There were far too many for me to reply individually so I hope this "group Thanks" will suffice. I'll keep you posted on this matter as & when I get any info.
Hope to see you on the 28th. (or even the 18th!)
John.
